This article will talk about the basic principles of leak testing which has 5 methods as follows:
1. The water immersion bubble test
Immerse the work into the water and see if there are bubbles.
2. The air flow test or Air flow tester
3. The gas detection test
Helium is used to detect whether the work has leakage.
4. The pressure decay test
Pressure is injected into the work to see if the injected pressure decays.
5. The pressure difference test
This is a measurement of the difference in air pressure in the work and the master. This method can be applied with COSMOWAVE’s Air Leak machine.
The advantages and disadvantages of the 5 leak testing methods
The conclusion indicates that the immersion method has efficient detection but comes with the cost of equipment such as jigs. The best detection method is gas detection, but it also has the highest cost of producing sensors.
The pressure difference test, a method done in conjunction with The COSMOWAVE machine, shows the best performance in Automation and Detection Ability.
