"Enshu", a machine tool manufacturer that manufactures and sells machining centers and provides after-sales care for machines in Thailand in Southeast Asia, is focusing on "after-sales service for customers." To be prepared for a case of wear or accidental damage, the company has a large stock of replacement parts in stock and is ready to dispatch them whenever a customer places requests. The service department is overseen by Hiroyuki Harada, Senior Technical Manager of the Thai corporation.
Upon his arrival in April 2019, his enthusiasm of saying, "Don't allow the customer's machines to stop," is impressive. Looking at the footprints of his successful activities after that, we can see the company's new efforts in Thailand.
On April 1, 2020, the Japanese parent company ENSHU announced regular personnel shifting and a new organization structure.
One of the highlights of the organizational reform is the new establishment of the "ASEAN-India Managing Division".
Norihisa Tabata, Managing Director of ENSHU (Thailand), is appointed also as the Division Manager.
Mr. Harada reports direct to Mr. Tabata, since he is his immediate supervisor.
Mr. Harada looks back at this past year and says, “We are finally ready with a system to make Thailand a hub for Asia.”
With Thailand as the main hub, ENSHU has bases in Indonesia, India, and neighboring countries such as Vietnam.
The company has set up a system that concentrates the major inventory of parts in Thailand and dispatches full-time engineers from Thailand to neighboring countries.
Once there is a problem, immediate assistance can be given by our staff flying to those locations from Thailand.
Compared to Japan, it has less of a time difference and is much more mobile.
The Thai engineers who are dispatched always hold a visa to be prepared for unexpected situations.
They are front-line engineers who have gained various experiences in the Thai market where many Japanese companies are expanding.
If it's a simple task such as replacing parts, a Thai engineer will instruct the local staff in each country by e-mail and handle it via remote control. They dedicate themselves to technical guidance and making communications for that purpose.
Staff from neighboring countries are regularly gathered in Thailand to be provided with technical training. Only at the beginning are they awkward. Being young men, as soon as they get to know each other, the training will be very lively.
The service system cultivated in this way has created a sense of unity as a team ENSHU, while also improving the sense of competition across borders in a good sense. Engineers compete for technical skills and the value of services provided to customers also improves. This is the form of evolution that the company has been aiming for.
Following India and Vietnam, it plans to build similar networks in other neighboring countries in the future. When that becomes possible, it is certain that the manufacturing market of “ASEAN + India” will enter a new era.
