— Please tell us about the collaboration between the two companies in Thailand.

Sakai: IBUKI INDUSTRIAL sells press machines, and we provide peripherals such as automatic feeders (un-coilers, levelers, feeders, transfers).

Yokomaku: I met Mr. Sakai in Thailand back in 2015. After working for YUTANI in Japan, Mr. Sakai started his own business in Thailand. I understand that Mr. Sakai's company has now become YUTANI's Thai branch.

Sakai: That's right. Once again returning to YUTANI. (Lol) In 2012, I consulted with YUTANI in Japan to see if I could do after-maintenance work for YUTANI’s machinery in Thailand and became independent. After that, in 2015, the company joined YUTANI as a local factory and their first overseas plant, and here we are now.

Yokomaku: There has been a lot of manual work at production factories in Thailand up to now, but since labor costs have increased for Thais, it has become a trend to automate processes through various methods, such as installing transport equipment into press machines.

Sakai: YUTANI products are custom-made products tailored to the specifications of the customer's factory. We are not only developing machines that automate the press process, but also focusing on the development of equipment that processes and treats metal coils and metal materials. At the factory, we are currently developing a transfer equipment with a mechanism different from that of the leveler feeder. In Brief words, it is a mechanism that automatically transports the material for the press to the press machine using a robot. Here in Thailand as well, we support the production of original parts of small lots as well as large-scale products under the policy of "respect Japanese-level high quality."

— From the viewpoint of IBUKI INDUSTRIAL, what are the strengths of YUTANI (THAILAND)?

Yokomaku: YUTANI has excellent creativity and the technical ability to flexibly customize standard machines. The aforementioned automatic transfer equipment that uses the robot is exceptional and very original.

Sakai: We can customize standard machines and also develop completely original ones, but there are almost no manufacturers in Japan that can do that.

Yokomaku: These manufacturers usually become a dedicated factory for some company, and no longer have systems to make this and that in smaller batches. Especially in Thailand, I don't think there are many Japanese-affiliated manufacturers who customize machines or make original machines. In this aspect, YUTANI’s existence is valuable to us.

Sakai: When making a customized machine, designing is a difficult job. A blueprint has to be made from scratch. It's also very hard to maintain the design team in-house. On the other hand, our company has been making various kinds of machines according to the customer's request, so we can quickly produce the drawings with proven results. Using those as a base, we have the advantage of being able to swiftly design and manufacture according to the order.

Yokomaku: For example, an articulated robot cannot be used as it is even if it is purchased from a manufacturer. We have to design everything, such as programming systems and creating a stand for placing things on the production line. YUTANI has a design team and engineers who can take care of these which are very much appreciated for handling various projects.
