He was transferred to Thailand in 2012 and appointed as president of KWE Thailand in 2015. He came up with revolutionary services, such as mass transportation utilizing consolidated delivery, and helped the company’s results to grow rapidly. He joined Kintetsu Express in 1994. After working for import customs clearance, he went to Thailand to work as a trainee for 2 years. After that, he was in charge of import sales in the Kanda import office. He returned to Thailand again from 2005 to 2012. After returning to Japan and working as head of the Minato import office, he became the president of KWE Thailand, which is his 3rd assignment in Thailand.
Mr. Tani said, “I tried many kinds of things when I look on the seven year stay in Thailand. During that period, the sales increased by approximately twice the original numbers in the air transport department and four times in the marine transport department. We could not achieve it without all the clients, shareholders, cooperative companies, and staff of KWE Thailand and the Thai people. I would like to thank all of them.”
However, he seems to have some regrets about training the Thai staff.
And Mr. Tani said, expecting of Mr. Yamashita, “We have been aiming to be a company which is loved widely and contributes to the local society. In the future we hope that the staff will be more satisfied and proud of working in our company, and KWE Thailand will produce excellent staff.”
And about his Thai staff he said, “I highly appreciate that they have always been working on providing the service to satisfy the customers for seven years. From now on, I want them to improve their skill to transmit to the outside.” He showed the direction of the ability development.
Mr. Yamashita responded to Mr. Tani’s words. “We have to raise the next generation who can lead the company to develop the company continuously.” He is motivated to develop human resources in Thailand by following Mr. Tani’s will.
Mr. Yamashita continued, “We will expand the business, paying attention to how the Thai market will change in the future.” He presented development strategies, considering the arrival of a business environment which is remarkably different from now, which is further progress of the global economics, the development of new infrastructure and traffic networks such as the Thai Economic Corridor, a high speed railway system, and the production transfer to Thailand which is drawing global attention again.
As Mr. Tani said, “We are a company that Japanese companies have relied on so far.” Seventy percent of the current customers of KWE Thailand are Japanese companies. The remaining 30% are Thai, European and American companies, but in other words, this part can be seen as “potential for business growth”.
As he mentioned the company’s future sales strategy, Mr. Yamashita said, “The expansion of dealing with European and US companies, and the approach to Chinese companies are future business directions, and we would like to widen the relationship with Thai major companies as well.”
At this time, it was an important talk in which the new and former presidents talked about their feelings toward Thailand.
There are high expectations of how the two of them will evolve the service of Kintetsu World Express in Thailand and Japan.
