Thai Escorp, a specialized trading company handling welding-related products and industrial robots, held a joint seminar with Universal Robots and OTC Daihen on June 23, 2023.

The seminar featured a demonstration of the "COBOT Welding Package", a solution that combines Universal Robots’ "UR Robot" and OTC DAIHEN's welding machine " Welbee series" . The package is a welding solution that automates manual welding operations with a robot to improve safety and productivity at manufacturing sites in Thailand.

"UR Robot" is a "universal robot" manufactured by a Danish robot manufacturer. It is the world's first collaborative robot (COBOT) developed based on the concept of collaboration between humans and robots at manufacturing sites. Based on the concept of "fusing the excellent points of humans and robots," difficult tasks that require precision can be performed easily and efficiently. COBOT is suitable for various tasks, and in this seminar, a solution for automating welding was introduced by combining it with OTC Daihen's welding machine "Welbee series".

The Welbee series of welding machines are peripheral equipment supported through the UR+ platform that seamlessly connects and integrates with UR robots. The unique technology and functions of the Welbee series are combined to enable exquisite welding. It features clean welding and allows the user to check various welding-related values through the attached LCD screen.

Benefits of implementing COBOT Welding Package
✔ No programming expertise required, easy robot teaching
✔ Stable welding, no experience-based skills required
✔ Easy to use for small quantities and a wide variety of products
✔ COBOT's compact size and single-phase power supply make it easy to move
✔ Reduce the burden on workers

★ Suitable utilization situations
UR COBOT connected to the Welbee series welding machines that can automatically adjust current and voltage, can accommodate various plate thicknesses. “COBOT x welding machines” can be easily moved on a cart, allowing welding without changing the existing layout.

Semi-automation by collaborative robots ensures efficiency and safety of welding operation

"We are acting as a distributor of Universal Robots and OTC Daihen products in Thailand. The COBOT Welding Package introduced here is a very new and innovative solution in Thailand. The “COBOT x welding machine” can be easily moved and weld beautifully with Welbee, making it ideal for a wide range of target part sizes and various production sites. The solution will help improve harsh working conditions, make better use of manpower, and automate production processes. The COBOT is portable and highly convenient in any work environment.” (Mr. Janikorn, Manager of Welding Department, Thai Escorp)

"Welding operations involve many elements that are harmful to the human body and highly hazardous, such as heat, smoke, dust, and strong light. The advantage of the COBOT Welding Package is that it can ensure high welding accuracy while avoiding these risks. It reduces the problem of manual welding skill variation and the physical burden on the workers (such as inhalation of hazardous gases during the operation). This seminar was a valuable opportunity to introduce new welding technology directly to people working on the manufacturing floor. The opportunity to exchange opinions directly with the on-site staff allowed us to gain a more detailed understanding of the components and overall picture of welding operations. By observing the welding process on the actual machine, we believe that the range of welding options has expanded, and we hope that it has contributed to the improvement of welding techniques in Thailand's manufacturing sites in the future." (Mr. Thanakrit, Channel Development Manager, Universal Robots)
