Various tools and software are available to enhance manufacturing process efficiency and accuracy, but choosing the best solution for specific on-site challenges can be difficult.
At Thai Escorp, we offer a wide range of solutions to address these manufacturing issues and provide expert support in recommending the most suitable equipment and software.
This article presents a case study of Kobelco Construction Machinery Southeast Asia Co., Ltd., where the work analysis and business optimization software "OTRS" was utilized to enhance operational efficiency.
Kobelco Construction Machinery Southeast Asia Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Kobelco Construction Machinery Thailand) is a manufacturer of hydraulic excavators, engages in manufacturing, sales, and service operations in Thailand. The company operates two factories in Thailand (Pluakdaeng Factory and Tasith Factory) and offers a product lineup of four hydraulic excavator models: 13-ton, 20-ton, 25-ton, and 35-ton. It sells domestically in Thailand and exports primarily to Southeast Asia and other overseas markets
【Challenges Before Software Implementation】
Before implementing the software, the company recorded work time data for various processes to analyze manufacturing performance and support Kaizen activities. The previous method involved manually extracting time data from recorded videos of the work process, making it a labor-intensive and analog approach. This not only required a significant amount of time but also had a high risk of human error. Enhancing operational efficiency and improving data accuracy were key challenges.
To address these challenges, the company implemented work analysis/operation optimization software "OTRS". The software’s key feature is its ability to easily analyze task cycles from video footage, enabling efficient execution of Kaizen activities.
【Benefits Experienced After Implementation】
■ Contributes to Improved Work Efficiency and Labor Savings
Previously, 2 to 3 employees were needed to record time data. However, after implementing the software, this requirement was reduced to just one employee. As a result, tasks are completed as planned.
At Kobelco Construction Machinery Thailand, OTRS was used for work analysis and standard time setting in project. Currently, for Kaizen activities aimed at reducing the work time required for engine mount installation, OTRS is used for about 15 days per month, up to 6 hours per day.
■ Enabling Further Operational Improvements Using Data
The video data-comparison feature allows users to view side-by-side comparisons of Kaizen activities before and after implementation, making it easier for staff with no prior knowledge to understand the key improvements. Additionally, the user-friendly design of the software is highly regarded for its ease of use.
■ Local After-Support by Thai Escorp
During the initial stages after implementation, Thai Escorp provides comprehensive support, including training on how to use OTRS and assistance with basic troubleshooting.
Creating time data that directly correlates with manufacturing cost calculations is crucial for Kaizen activities. With the introduction of OTRS, it has become easier to achieve work efficiency and improvements in manufacturing processes based on accurate data.
Currently, Kobelco Construction Machinery Thailand has implemented OTRS at two factory locations, through both rental and purchase arrangements, and is carrying out efficient Kaizen activities.
Thai Escorp also offers trial implementations of OTRS, providing a one-month demo period before making a final adoption decision.
