Most management of quality and inventory used to be done by human hands, so not only did it take time and effort but also human errors occurred. However, as you know, after 2 dimensional codes represented by bar codes and QR codes appeared, the traceability to trace and manage the information from production to transportation and sales has been greatly improved. In recent years, RFID (automatic recognition technology using short-range wireless communication) used IC tags started to come to the fore and this field continues to innovate. “Freewill-Mars Tohken Co., Ltd.” is a general manufacturer of automatic recognition systems which provides various solutions suitable for business sites, such as products and technology related to codes and the knowhow of data management, including the equipment called a reader which reads the information stored in these codes and tags.
Freewill-Mars Tohken is a joint corporation of Mars Tohken Solution whose H.Q. is in Tokyo and Freewill Solutions, an IT company with more than 500 system engineers affiliated with the CP Group, Thailand’s largest conglomerate company.
As a great manufacturing country, Thailand has been providing the inventory management of products and materials using bar code labels, production management by direct marking (laser marking and dot pin marking etc.) and traceability for a while now. In recent years, with the keywords “smart factory”, “IoT” and “automation”, the needs to “individually recognize” more “objects and persons” efficiently in a higher level and collect data are increasing. We propose the core technology of “bar codes and 2 dimensional codes”, “RFID” and “image processing” and the most suitable solution for each site from more than 2000 introduction cases.
The bar codes and 2 dimensional codes have been mainly used to recognize the unique ID of objects so far. However, now RFID is used more and more for the management of each item as you can see in the apparel industry and books in libraries. This is because in addition to the cost reduction of RFID tags and the reader/writer itself, it can largely reduce cashier operations, stocktaking operations after the shop closed, and inspection work in warehouses and factories, which makes it possible for whole supply chains to be more cost-effective.
This situation is considered actively at the sites of the manufacturing industry. Besides RFID has many results in the uses to manage returnable boxes coming and going between bases and processes, it is also starting to be used for the individual management of automobile parts and traceability. Normally a feature of RFID (UHF band) is to read many objects at the same time from the far position, but we have also developed and released a reader/writer with a control function to “read only the area about 30cm away from the antenna” or “read only the specified tags within 1m”, to utilize it in the production line. Compared with bar codes and 2 dimensional codes, the antenna can be set up in much more flexible position, and it shortens the construction period for equipment design and start-up and makes maintenance easy overseas when lacking engineers.
Due to the high pixel count of cameras and the high speed of the CPU, instead of bar codes, the accuracy of OCR to read characters and figures directly and individual recognition by pattern matching is improving dramatically in recent years. We also have been providing the reading of not only the characters printed on paper, but also the characters printed on a substrate by laser before this. We can also propose a combination technique to read bar codes and characters with one camera.
Even though it is the same object, the most suitable way of choosing RFID, 2 dimensional codes or image recognition varies depending on the purpose and environment. Freewill-Mars Tohken has many specialized staff for automatic recognition equipment and system development and arranges the system to provide similar products and service to Japanese companies in Thailand with a principle of asking the purposes and requirements directly and providing the maximum effect with optimal cost. Moreover, we have set up agents in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam, so we can provide the products in each ASEAN country.
Currently our main customers are Japanese companies related to automobile, electronic parts and distribution in Thailand, but we would also like many Thai companies to be using our products in a wide range of fields in the future.
