In bulk part picking, recognizing transparent materials, glossy surfaces, small-sized, and thin workpieces poses a challenge. Additionally, achieving high-precision recognition can be difficult under varying external lighting conditions. This article introduces a 3D vision system that accurately detects the contours of workpieces that are difficult for traditional 3D vision systems to identify. It enables the automation of picking and assembly processes without being affected by ambient light.
This system accurately recognizes transparent, glossy, and thin workpieces with high speed and precision—areas where traditional image recognition technologies struggle or require more time. Equipped with AI, this 3D vision technology excels in pick-and-place applications, particularly for transparent plastic parts and metallic materials with reflective surfaces.
【Features of the Cambrian Vision System】
✔ Accurately recognizes transparent, glossy, and thin workpieces without requiring auxiliary lighting.
By utilizing two cameras to extract target objects in three dimensions, the Cambrian Vision System can accurately recognize the contours of workpieces that conventional vision systems struggled to identify. Additionally, with the integration of game engines and AI, a pre-trained image model adapts to various lighting conditions, making the system unaffected by changes in illumination. As a result, the need for auxiliary lighting adjustments or installation-based lighting modifications is eliminated, significantly reducing setup time.
✔ Enables high-speed and precise picking
By pre-learning 3D CAD data, the system processes the workpiece image in approximately 0.3 seconds after capturing. By matching the learned data with the captured image, it reduces cycle time compared to conventional vision systems.
✔ Easy Setup
The Cambrian camera and robot communication program enable automatic calibration. The camera module is compact and lightweight (approximately 400g). Additionally, the system features a simple equipment configuration, making removal and replacement easy. A learning model is created based on the workpiece’s CAD data and provided, eliminating the need for additional training.
The Cambrian Vision System, a 3D vision system developed in the UK, is gaining significant attention in the Japanese market due to its high-speed and precise recognition technology. Ueno (Thailand) showcased a demonstration unit, integrated with a DENSO robot, for the first time in Southeast Asia.
