Currently, ViSCO’s machine vision system is in operation thousands of factories all around the world. DefFinder® , which boasts of its high defect-detecting function is an application which considers product variations and detects defects with comparing acquired images to non-defective samples.
However, it was difficult to detect dents and warps on surface. This is largely due to the illumination. With conventional method illumination is set from one direction so that it is difficult to make stable detection for slight dents and warps.
We ViSCO now offer a new method, which is TSCDefFinder
It detects the difference between non-defective samples by generating defect-extracted image based on multiple images captured under four or more illumination conditions.
By extracting differences of surface, slight dents and warps can be detected without being affected by pattern of the surface.
TSCDefFinder can perform the following three types of inspection depending on forms of defect.
・Unevenness mode: Detects gentle deforms such as bulges, dents, and warps
・Dent mode: Detects partial deforms such as dents
・Crack mode: Detects line-shaped defects such as cracks
The video shows the detection of dent and scratch on a metal surface based on five images taken from five different illumination directions.
