Common thermoplastics account for the majority of plastic products. Because it is inexpensive, has good processability, and is highly mass-producible, it is used in a wide range of applications including household and industrial products. Heat deformation temperature is less than 100°C.
【Main materials handled】
・PVC (polyvinyl chloride)
It has excellent adhesion, welding, and bending workability, and is easy to process. It has good chemical resistance (especially acid resistance) and low water absorption. It is one of the five major general-purpose resins and is inexpensive and suitable for mass production.
・PE (polyethylene)
The world's most widely produced resin material with inexpensive raw materials. It has excellent waterproof, oil-resistant, chemical-resistant, and insulating properties, but it is vulnerable to heat and easily scratched.
・PET (polyethylene terephthalate)
Excellent mechanical properties and dimensional stability; widely used for high-precision products and food machinery parts.
There are two types, A-PET and G-PET, and they can be used properly depending on the application.
・PP (polypropylene)
It is extremely lightweight and does not easily deform when subjected to force. It is harder than PE and has relatively high heat resistance. It has high chemical resistance and is widely used for semiconductor-related parts.
・PS (polystyrene)
Tasteless and odorless, with excellent transparency, rigidity, and water resistance. Also called “styrene resin,” it is the raw material for styrene foam. It is easy to process and has good reproducibility, but vulnerable to heat.
・ABS
It has impact resistance and high rigidity, and is easy to process. High designability due to excellent surface gloss and coloring properties. Suitable for prototyping and modeling. Vulnerable to organic solvents and flammable.
・PMMA (acrylic resin)
94% light transmittance (transparency) exceeding that of glass. It has the highest weather resistance and UV resistance of all resins, but it is vulnerable to chemicals and is prone to cracking.
