YKT (Thailand) has begun handling the revolutionary pin gauges of Swiss tool manufacturer CARY in the fall of 2023. It is the “SPHERIDUR” series of carbide spring-type spherical pin gauges.

At the foot of the Swiss Jura Mountains, where CARY is located, there are many companies that manufacture precision machining instruments for the watchmaking industry. CARY has also been manufacturing inspection and measuring instruments for watches and clocks for about 100 years as a specialized gauge manufacturer. Then the company developed the "SPHERIDUR.” There are two main features of the innovative "SPHERIDUR" that have revolutionized pin gauging.

Wide gauge insertion angle and internal spring structure

Features of CARY's carbide spring-type spherical pin gauge "SPHERIDUR"
・ 120-degree insertion angle enables measurement in a short time.
・ Spring mechanism reduces variation in measurement.

Normal pin gauges should be inserted perpendicular to the hole. However, this task becomes less easy as the hole diameter decreases. If you try to force it, the pins will wear out and scratch the surface. Trying to force into the hole, it may result in it getting stuck.

However, with "SPHERIDUR", it is not necessary to put it perpendicular to the hole. The gauge made of ultra-fine carbide material has a spherical shape of 0.1 μm or less, ensuring a wide gauge insertion range of 60 degrees on either side. In other words, the 120-degree insertion angle allows the gauge to be inserted quickly into the hole and reliably measure 0.5μm.

Another advantage is that it is made of carbide material, which is resistant to wear. In addition, the shank type is easy to work with a resin handle that is less susceptible to thermal displacement.

The measurement of hole diameters tends to vary from operator to operator, and how to minimize the variation is a headache for any factory. The "SPHERIDUR" is designed to operate the spring-type pin with a load of only 0.04~0.2N, so the spring-type pin begins to retract inside the handle the moment the gauge touches the inner surface. The spring, which always maintains the same tension, provides objective measurement that is not dependent on the operator.

▲ Expansion and contraction of spring-type pins to prevent variation

"SPHERIDUR" is available in a boxed set of several gauges, including "Standard-type shaft-type gauge L" and "Long-shaft type gauge LM for deep hole”.

Revolutionary pin gauges that help reduce tooling costs

The design is stylish. Above all, the ability to grasp the inner surface shape in a short time with high accuracy without variation is what sets it apart from other pin gauges. Although the price is not cheap compared to general pin gauges, it can greatly contribute to cost reduction in the mid- to long-term, given the advantages of high measurement accuracy, operator-independent measurement, and resistance to breakage.

CARY complies with the international standard ISO/IEC 17025, which certifies the quality and competence of calibration laboratories. The company offers calibration of master gauges with measuring instruments accredited by METAS, the Swiss National Metrology Institute.

We sell this "SPHERIDUR" in Japan and Southeast Asia. We plan to expand sales in Southeast Asia with Thailand as our base.

"SPHERIDUR" is a product whose outstanding features and benefits can be felt more deeply by actually touching it than by describing it in words. If you would like to try it out and experience its features, please contact us. We will immediately prepare a product for demonstration.
