Sugino Machine (Thailand) offers drilling and tapping units that are essential for mass production and improving the efficiency of complex operations. This article introduces the features of the renewed "Selfeeder
Currently, three-phase induction motors are widely used in various machines, accounting for about 40% to 50% of global electricity consumption. In response to strengthened regulations aimed at improving energy efficiency as part of global efforts to combat climate change, Sugino Machine has transitioned from conventional three-phase induction motors to Mitsubishi’s high-efficiency PM motors. Starting in April 2024, the Selfeeder and Synchrotapper series have been upgraded with more efficient and environmentally friendly designs, delivering enhanced performance compared to previous models.

【Features of Selfeeder / Synchrotapper with PM Motor】
■ Enhanced Energy Efficiency
The use of PM motors for the spindle drive results in significant energy savings. This not only reduces overall energy consumption but also helps lower electricity costs in factories.
■ Reduction of CO2 Emissions
Compared to three-phase induction motors, PM motors are expected to significantly reduce CO2 emissions, contributing to a lower environmental impact and helping mitigate global warming.
■ Compliance with Efficiency Motor Regulations
This product complies with strict motor efficiency regulations in regions such as Europe, China, India, and the U.S., making it suitable for export to these markets. It can now be safely introduced to regions where exports were previously restricted due to regulatory requirements.
■Improved Workability with Variable Spindle Speed
The spindle speed can be easily adjusted without requiring setup changes, thanks to the included inverter. This flexibility allows it to adapt to a wide range of machining diameters, significantly enhancing work efficiency.
The Selfeeder functions as a drilling machine, while the Synchrotapper operates as a tapping machine. While both maintain high performance in their respective applications, this renewal has further improved usability. By combining the Selfeeder and Synchro Tapper, it is possible to create a cost-effective specialized machine. This setup increases efficiency and reduces costs by automating the mass production process for small batches of products. Even in a landscape dominated by general-purpose machines like machining centers, specialized machines excel in the mass production of specific parts, significantly contributing to cost reduction and enhanced production efficiency.
In Thailand, many customers are currently using the older series of Selfeeder units. Moving forward, we will recommend upgrading to the new series. By adopting the new model, customers can achieve both energy savings and improved productivity simultaneously.
The old series is no longer be available for sale as of the end of March 2024, so we encourage you to consider adopting the new series. By utilizing next-generation drilling and tapping technology, the new models will maximize production efficiency.
